This K to 3 Social Studies professional learning session will introduce teachers to foundational Métis perspectives through exploration of key cultural symbols such as the Red River cart and Métis sash, the beauty of the Michif language, and traditional Métis ways of living including farming, hunting, trapping, buffalo hunting, river-lot systems, and living off the land. Teachers will also learn about historical Métis communities and the significance of Métis Settlements as self-governing communities that continue to support Métis culture and identity.
